Ireland sparkles at Service Excellence Awards

Sodexo Prestige Ireland scooped two top awards at the company’s UK and Ireland Service Excellence Awards 2012.


The Schools Bundle 1 team in Portlaoise won the Technical Services Team of the Year Award and gym instructor Karen Roberts at Paypal in West Dublin was the joint winner of the 2012 Healthworks Service Excellence Award. The cleaning team at Southern Regional College Portadown Campus in Co. Down were runners-up in the their category. They were all presented with their Awards by Debbie White, ceo for Sodexo UK and Ireland.

The event saw security, cleaning, health and wellbeing, grounds and building maintenance employees come together and be recognised for their hard work. Winners were judged on their day-to-day performance within their roles, ability to be creative and innovative as well as their overall customer service expertise.

Group manager Derek Waters and Des Kilbride, facilities manager for the Portlaoise schools campus, accepted the Technical Services Award on behalf of the overall team. Jeremy Dicks, managing director, Sodexo Ireland, said “The team at Portlaoise fought off competition from dozens of other teams across Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK to scoop the well-deserved top spot. They have received many compliments from both school management and key government departments for the excellent service quality they provide on a daily basis and we are pleased, delighted and proud that their dedication and hard work has been recognised at such a high level within the company,” said Jeremy.

Healthworks winner Karen Roberts was recognised for her outstanding commitment to helping members understand their health and wellbeing needs, developing tailormade fitness solutions and for her constant enthusiasm and creativity in her work. “Karen creates a fantastic atmosphere in the gym at Paypal and engages with everyone on-site. She organises classes and always brings in new ideas for workout challenges and new competitions to keep things fresh. She encourages people to raise money for charity through fitness challenges which keeps them motivated and is always available to give help and advice when needed”, said business manager Sinead Kenny, who nominated Karen for the award.

Group manager Amanda Duffy and cleaning supervisor Nigel Kerr represented the team at the Southern Regional College Portadown Campus and accepted the Runnerup award on their behalf. “Our cleaning team’s attention to detail is second to none; they are flexible, versatile and have a great leader in Nigel Kerr. Collectively, they have over 93 years of experience and constantly meet and exceed the client targets” said Amanda Duffy, who nominated them for the Award.
